9 Things You Can Do to Decrease Stress Today!


Stress is inevitable! We all get it. Stress can be good (eustress) or bad (distress). In this post, we are going to give you 9 actionable tips that you can use today to help you decrease stress! These are in no particular order of importance, so start with one you think you can do right now!


  1. Stay Hydrated - Drinking up to 120 oz. of water will help maintain fluid balance and you will feel better.

  2. Get at least 6 hours of sleep (8 is optimal) - the body operates on a circadian rhythm which requires 7-9 hours of sleep, but most of us get less than 6!

  3. Exercise - It will help you to build up endorphins which will help with feelings of stress.

  4. Eat Whole Foods - Whole foods are fruits, vegetables, non-processed meats, etc. (think the outside aisles at the grocery store).

  5. Play (sports, games, etc.) - Recreational activities will help you to keep your mind off of work and also create endorphins.

  6. Avoid Alcohol - Alcohol is a depressant and that can lead to more stress when you are done drinking (a few a week is okay)

  7. Listen to Music - Pick your favorite genre or band and just enjoy the music for 10 or more minutes.

  8. Dance - Even if it's in your car, dancing will help build endorphins and take your mind off of stressful things going on.

  9. Get Out- Going outside has shown to relieve stress. Nature is better than the city, but either one counts.

Try to do one thing per day and you will see that your stress levels go down. They may rise periodically, but now you have an arsenal of stress relieving strategies.
