Are You Sitting More Due to Stay-at-Home Rules?

Writer's picture: Dr. Joel SpringDr. Joel Spring

If you are like many of us in Washington State, we are all stuck at home. For a lot of people, myself included, this means a lot more sitting. I’m sitting on the couch with my daughter watching a lot of Disney+ or coloring or playing with Play-Doh. I’m also sitting a lot at my computer working on starting my own business. Usually during the work day I wake up and go to CrossFit Amped, then go and treat patients for 8+ hours, then go home and play with my daughter (which does involve a lot of Baby Shark dancing on Alexa). When I’m working with patients I barely am still. I’m educating them and taking them through exercises to help them out.

What is important to remember during this Stay-at-Home Order is to try to keep moving.

  1. Go for walks around the neighborhood

  2. Move around the house

  3. Change positions

  4. Check out our YouTube channel for ideas to move

One thing for certain is that moving can help you avoid aches and pains! Moving can help relieve stress. If moving a little isn’t doing it for you, do some things like squats, burpees, lunges, push-ups, sit-ups or pull-ups to get your heart rate elevated. A little sweat can help out a lot when you are stuck at home.
