Decreasing Holiday Stress

The holiday season is upon us. Halloween was this past weekend. Coming up is Thanksgiving followed by a sprint to Hanukah, Christmas, and New Year's.

This time of year can have increased stress. We also just had a highly contentious election and are in the middle of the Corona Virus pandemic.

Here are some tips to help you deal with the holiday stress:

  1. Set Up A Sleep Schedule - It really helps to try to go to bed at the same time and wake up at the same time every day. You can alleviate a lot of stress by getting a good night's sleep. We all can use more sleep and don't get enough. Setting a sleep schedule can really help.

  2. Exercise Regularly - Exercise has proven to help reduce stress. Exercising at high intensity releases chemicals called endorphins that are shown to help reduce stress.

  3. Find An Enjoyable Activity - Spending time doing things you enjoy can help take your mind off of things that are stressing you out. This doesn't have to be exercise (that is tip #2).

  4. Speak With A Therapist - There are people that specialize in helping you deal with stress. If it is becoming too much, reach out to a professional.

  5. Have Someone You Can Talk To - Sometimes the best way to deal with stress is to have someone you can vent with or vent too. It can be such a relief to just get what you are feeling off your chest.

  6. Yell and Scream - Yelling and Screaming loudly (not in someone's face) has shown to help decrease stress levels. Go outside now and give it a go!!

You can take these tips and use them now! Please try and keep your stress levels low and share these tips with friends and family that may need to relieve some stress.
