Do You Have Pain In The Front of Your Shoulder?

There can be many reasons for pain in the front of your shoulders. This is called Anterior Shoulder Pain. Symptoms may include pain when reaching overhead, trouble sleeping, or tightness. We are going to address causes and teach you some exercises in this blog post.

What Causes Anterior Shoulder Pain?

Your shoulder is considered by many to be the most complex joint in your body! It has a lot of responsibility. Your shoulder connects your arm to your body. Anytime you use your arm, your shoulder is, at least partially, engaged. Because of this, your shoulder may hurt.

A lot of times that pain is on the front of your shoulder. A lot of muscles, tendons and ligaments come through the front of your shoulder. In the front of your shoulder are biceps tendons and rotator cuff tendons. These can get sore from overuse and underuse. If you sit at a computer for a lot of your day, your shoulders can be pulled forward by tight pec muscles.

All of these things can contribute to issues in the front of your shoulder. If you are looking to regain full use of your shoulder, keep reading!

Diagnosing Anterior Shoulder Pain

When you have pain in the front of your shoulder it can make a lot of daily tasks difficult. It can interfere with your ability to work, cook, clean, and work out. This is an inconvenience at the very least.

Trying to diagnose what exactly is happening is less important than making sure there isn't a major issue. Some major issues to make sure you don't have are rotator cuff tears and dislocations or subluxations (a mild displacement).

Once a major issue is eliminated goals of the injury are the same: Return to Activity!

Your shoulder may have one of these issues (these are not terrible and can recover simply):

  • Impingement Syndrome

  • Bicep Tendonitis

  • Bursitis

  • Rotator Cuff Tendonitis

Although these are different, some exercises can effect all of them. The common denominator in these diagnoses is that there is decreased space for your shoulder muscles, tendons, and bones to move around. Where the issues are will affect some specific exercises to get you back to doing everything that you love
