Should You Meditate?

The short answer is yes. Everyone should do some type of meditation. What you like or what helps you may differ. Here are some ways you can meditate and some of the benefits of meditation.

Benefits of Meditation

There are many benefits to meditation. Here are a few:

  1. Lower Heart Rate

  2. Decrease Stress Levels

  3. Improve Focus

  4. Improve Sleep

  5. Release Tension

  6. Decrease Pain

Ways to Meditate

Meditation can take many forms. You may need to play around with what works best for you, but the important thing is that you try to do it!

Focus your Intention - Take some time everyday to focus on what you want to accomplish. This can take 5 minutes or 30 minutes. When you are going longer, picture your future and what you hope that is.

Quiet Time - Find a break from the hustle and bustle of your busy life. This can be just calmly relaxing in the bath, or going for a hike and sitting in nature. Try to find some time to unplug and be alone.

Use an App - If you have a smart phone, there are a ton of different apps for you to try to work on your meditation. Some smart watches also have meditation programs.

Breathing - Work on breathing in through your nose and expanding your diaphragm. You can exhale through your nose or your mouth

Gentle Yoga - Yoga focuses on breath and relaxation. Trying a gentle yoga class can ease you into the practice.

Daily Rituals - Whatever you choose, try to incorporate something daily. You should schedule it into your day like you do your workouts and work hours!

How Often Should I Meditate

The answer to this is daily! But that can be a reach if you are just starting out. To slowly add meditation into your life, try to do it 1 day per week. This usually works best if you schedule it and have an accountability partner. You can put it on your calendar for tomorrow! And then copy that for every week. When that becomes easy for you, add another day (preferably spaced apart so you can de-stress periodically).

Now get out there and enjoy!
