There are certain things you can actively do to help prevent injury in your own body. What follows is a list of the top things that you can do today to prevent (or recover) from an injury.

Top 5 Things You Can Do To Prevent Injury Today

  1. Sleep - you may have seen some of my previous posts on sleep, but getting enough quality sleep is the best way to prevent injury.

  2. Nutrition - dialing in your nutrition and having a balanced diet will help you stay healthy. The right amount of Protein, Carbohydrates, and Fat will all aid in injury prevention.

  3. Exercise - vigorous exercise will help you stay away from injury. You must work up to it. Ease in to any vigorous exercise routine. Muscle soreness is not injury!

  4. Active Recovery - on your days off, it is important to keep moving. You want to move the active muscles and lubricate joints. Staying sedentary is a recipe for disaster.

  5. Chronic Work Load - don't increase your exercise regimen too fast. Pay attention to what you are adding to your exercises each week. Make sure that you are not adding more than 10% maximum to your runs, lifts, time spent training, etc.
