You and Your Feet

A lot of you have minor aches and pains. Did you know that pain in the foot can lead to decreased function. This means that if you have pain in your feet you are less likely to do the things you enjoy doing. Whether that is running or walking; gardening or even standing, it is important to maintain healthy feet.

Why Your Feet Are Important

Your foot is the first thing to touch the ground whenever you move. Because of this any issue with your foot could travel up to the rest of your body. This includes, but is not limited to your knees, ankles, and low back. Sometimes addressing your feet can help alleviate issues you have with any of these.

If you want to do an experiment at home, try walking around with a pebble in one of your shoes. See how that effects the way you move! Don't do it for long, just 4-5 steps each.

Your FEET ARE IMPORTANT!

3 Ways To Keep Your Feet Healthy

  1. Wear good fitting shoes: Your foot is different than anyone else. Because of this you need to find a shoe that fits your foot. There are many stores you can find that will help you, but it should be comfortable (This is very hard with dress shoes).

  2. Use your foot muscles: When you are sitting at home, use the muscles inside your foot to grab the floor. By training these muscles to help hold up your arch, you will help eliminate issues like plantar fasciitis!

  3. Work your balance: Balance helps you not fall down. Since your foot is what connects you to the ground, working balance will help your foot become stronger and more stable!
