Your Back Pain May Not Be Your Back

Back Pain

80% of people experience back pain at some point in life!! That is a ton of people. Back pain is anything considered to be painful in the mid to lower back. This is a pretty big area. There are many causes and reasons for back pain. This blog aims to address one reason and that is your hips!!

Hips and Back Pain

Your hips are closely related to your back. Your hips connect to your pelvis and so does your back. The pelvis is pretty stable. For most of you, it is difficulty to move the pelvis (SI joint stuff is for a different day). Sometimes the back is sore because it has to do too much work.

When the hips aren't doing their job, the back will pick up the slack. This extra work from the back can cause pain. There are two types of work that the back will do for the hips.

The first one is mobility. If you have tight hips, your back will try to make up for that by increasing the amount of movement it has, or it will move into awkward positions to try and adjust for your tight hips.

The other one is due to strength deficits in the hip. If your hips are weak, or not doing their job, the back will tighten up to add stability to the body.

These two reasons are why hip issues can cause back pain. Be aware of your hips when you have back pain. Sometimes the correct thing to do is to treat your hips.
